25 Songs from 25 Years
To celebrate PYT’s 25th birthday, members took part in two performances of musical theatre numbers, presenting the best loved songs from the PYT repertoire to a sell out audience.
Older members performed in Candide – based on Voltaire’s satirical writings, with Leonard Bernstein’s boundless musical score. Though the story is centuries old, PYT’s production injected youthful charm and energy into an impressive and epic production.
Disney’s Alice in Wonderland
Lewis Carroll’s most famous heroine came to life in a delightful adaptation of the classic Disney film. A delighted audience travelled down the rabbit hole to join Alice in one of literature’s most beloved madcap adventures.
The world’s best loved musical came to Petersfield in 2016. After a life of misery at Miss Hannigan’s New York City orphanage, Orphan Annie was determined to find her real parents. Her luck changes when she is chosen to spend Christmas at the mansion of famous billionaire, Oliver Warbucks. Another sold-out production!
Petersfield Youth Theatre runs workshops for its members during term time. These are aimed at young people in School Year 1 – 7. The five weeks before half-term will be spent learning and developing new skills. After half-term there will be four weeks of rehearsals and on the fifth week parents and guardians will be able to attend a performance. Workshops are on a Thursday evening and each term will have a different theme. Our aim is to create a positive and supporting environment for our young members to learn stage skills, gain confidence and know how to audition when the time comes.
Both PYT members and non-members can take part in our Easter Project, which is open to young people aged from 5 to 15 years. The Easter Project is great fun, with music and singing and a performance element on the last day. The project features song and dance numbers from popular musical theatre productions. Four days are spent working towards a fully staged production, featuring a live band. This performance will be given to friends and family.
Our Summer School is aimed at young people aged 5 to 10 years. This project – ‘Summer Fun’, is open to both members and non-members and the young people will participate in a series of theatre skill workshops led by professional theatre practitioners. The emphasis will be on ‘having fun’ through theatre skills.
Costuming a show is often a daunting task for any wardrobe department, especially when you need ‘about 100 costumes’ and most of them are for children! A visit to our costume store often solves the problem immediately and being centrally located in Petersfield, we are easily accessible from the mainline railway and the A3.
For 25 years, we have been accumulating a wide range of costumes, which we are able to hire out to schools, colleges and both amateur and professional theatre groups. Our costumes have been designed to fit children and young adults. Due to the number of young people in our performances, we have sets of matching costumes, which will give you much more scope when designing your show.
We also have a large variety of costumes that can be adapted for many different purposes. These include boys’ suits from different eras, evening wear, overcoats and costumes for ‘down and outs,’ which have been carefully selected or dyed in different tones of the same colour.
With our many years of experience, we can help you find what you need from this wide range of costumes. You may find that you end up completely re-designing your show based on what you find in our store, or even planning your next show based on our costumes that are available.
As part of the complex where Petersfield Youth Theatre is based, we have a purpose-built dance / drama studio with full-length mirrors. The Space can be hired out to local arts groups on selected days. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to have a look around. Read more…
