Petersfield Youth Theatre is a wonderful place to find inspiration and limitless imagination.  It is a nurturing, educational and fun environment for young people who are interested in theatre, whether their desire is to build confidence and make friends, or to ultimately work in the professional world of theatre.

Petersfield Youth Theatre was founded in 1990.  We are a registered charity working to advance the education in music and theatrical arts amongst children and young people aged from 5 to 23 years.

The company is run by a small group of enthusiastic staff and volunteers, who employ theatre and education practitioners to direct productions, workshops and projects.  Everyone involved is passionate about offering the ultimate theatrical experience for young people as well as performances with the highest production values.

We support our young people by offering the professionalism and inspirational coaching of some of the most experienced theatre practitioners in the country.  The young people involved in PYT are given the confidence and support to be the best that they can be through projects, workshops and productions full of fun and excitement.

There are currently over 250 members aged between 5 and 23 years.  Many of our members join us at 5 and stay with us until their late teens.

PYT runs a project-based system.  Each term there is a project to take part in.  The Spring Term consists of workshops for different age groups; there is a performance project running for four days at Bedales School during the Easter holidays with a performance for family and friends at the end and there is a Summer School, also at Bedales.

Each Spring, we audition members for the Autumn Season and if successful, rehearsals for cast members take place in August and September.  The Autumn Term sees rehearsals for the Christmas production.

There are no set days / times – it depends on what we are doing and the availability of the theatre professionals taking part.  We can confirm, however, that generally, the two weekday evenings of Tuesdays and Thursdays tend to be kept for our projects, through not necessarily every time!

Rehearsals leading up to a production are full of enthusiasm, fun and hard work, with professional teams bringing ideas and experience together to give the children and young people a taste of what it feels like to play a part in live theatre.

PYT is committed to providing a safe environment for all children and young people and has strict policies based around safeguarding of young people.
