Petersfield Youth Theatre is a wonderful place to find inspiration and limitless imagination.  It is a nurturing, educational and fun environment for young people who are interested in theatre, whether their desire is to build confidence and make friends, or to ultimately work in the professional world of theatre.

Petersfield Youth Theatre was founded in 1990.  We are a registered charity working to advance the education in music and theatrical arts amongst children and young people aged from 5 to 23 years.

The company is run by a small group of enthusiastic staff and volunteers, who employ theatre and education practitioners to direct productions, workshops and projects.  Everyone involved is passionate about offering the ultimate theatrical experience for young people as well as performances with the highest production values.

Both PYT members and non-members can take part in our Easter Project, which is open to young people aged from 5 to 15 years.  The Easter Project is great fun, with music and singing and a performance element on the last day.  The project features song and dance numbers from popular musical theatre productions.  Four days are spent working towards a fully staged production, featuring a live band.  This performance will be given to friends and family.

Our Summer School is aimed at young people aged 5 to 12 years.  This project – ‘Summer Fun’,  is open to both members and non-members and the young people will participate in a series of theatre skill workshops led by professional theatre practitioners.  The emphasis will be on ‘having fun’ through theatre skills.

There are no set days / times – it depends on what we are doing and the availability of the theatre professionals taking part.  We can confirm, however, that generally, the two weekday evenings of Tuesdays and Thursdays tend to be kept for our projects, through not necessarily every time!

Rehearsals leading up to a production are full of enthusiasm, fun and hard work, with professional teams bringing ideas and experience together to give the children and young people a taste of what it feels like to play a part in live theatre.

PYT is committed to providing a safe environment for all children and young people and has strict policies based around safeguarding of young people.

25 Songs from 25 Years

To celebrate PYT’s 25th birthday, members took part in two performances of musical theatre numbers, presenting the best loved songs from the PYT repertoire to a sell out audience.

Candide

Older members performed in Candide – based on Voltaire’s satirical writings, with Leonard Bernstein’s boundless musical score. Though the story is centuries old, PYT’s production injected youthful charm and energy into an impressive and epic production.

Disney’s Alice in Wonderland

Lewis Carroll’s most famous heroine came to life in a delightful adaptation of the classic Disney film. A delighted audience travelled down the rabbit hole to join Alice in one of literature’s most beloved madcap adventures.

Annie

The world’s best loved musical came to Petersfield in 2016.  After a life of misery at Miss Hannigan’s New York City orphanage, Orphan Annie was determined to find her real parents.  Her luck changes when she is chosen to spend Christmas at the mansion of famous billionaire, Oliver Warbucks.  Another sold-out production!
